Eid al-Adha (1447 - 2026) Announcement
Sunday, 29 Dhul Qa'dah 1446 / 17 May 2026
All praise is for Allah Almighty. May the peace and blessings be upon the Messenger and his family, the faithful companions and all those who follow them.
With a view to focusing on the higher objectives of the Shari'ah and fostering unity in the local community, the Council of Imams of Ottawa-Gatineau (the Council) previously resolved to align the observation of Eid al-Adha with the day of 'Arafah. Accordingly, the Council has accepted the first of Dhul Hijjah as Monday, May 18, 2026, as officially announced for the Hajj. Therefore, In Sha'a Allah, Eid al-Adha will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 27, 2026.
The Council of Imams encourages community members to benefit from the best ten days of the year and observe fasting on the Day of 'Arafah, which will be on Tuesday, May 26, 2026, In Sha'a Allah.
Ibn Abbas (RA) reported that the Prophet said: "There are no days during which righteous action is so pleasing to Allah than these days (i.e., the first ten days of Dhul Hijjah)..." (al-Bukhari).
Let us remember our blessings and celebrate Eid in the spirit of inclusion, forgiveness and reconciliation.
